“Sow Seeds for Victory!”

As food production fell off in war-torn countries, rallying cries for home gardens and produce became synonymous with victory. Victory Gardens cropped up and home food production increased.

Sugar beets play a significant role in the accessibility of sugar during WWII. Due to difficulty in obtaining sugar cane due to the war, this crop helped fill in the gap, resulting in an increased demand for sugar beets.

A Transitional Time

Threshing grain took a significant amount of help in the harvest season. Multiple steps demanded people, machinery, and other resources be available to keep harvest progressing. This week’s Throwback Thursday shows the E.M. “Gene” Young threshing crew.
