This print was published in Historical and Statistical Information respecting the History, Condition, and Prospects of the Indian Tribes of the United States, Vol. II (1884 reprint). Henry Rowe Schoolcraft, an early geographer, geologist, and ethnographer was commissioned by Congress to develop a comprehensive reference work about American Indian tribes.

In 1892, the Bowdle Flour mill was originally formed as a corporation by local residents. During the 1920s, the mill ground local wheat into flour and shipped it to England, Greece, Portugal, Ecuador, Spain, and Columbia. Early brands of flour from this mill were Diamond and Kaiser.

Daphne Chapman Serles, a South Dakota State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts 1917 graduate, kept a scrapbook of her time at college, activities, and travelling with family and friends. One of the photos in this scrapbook is of two locomotives buried in snow. Written on the lower part of the photo is “Lemmon, SD.”  The photo was taken ca. 1915-1920.

When a donor sent the photo to the museum, he also sent along this description: "Old Time Farming--neighbor helping neighbor Gary Jager in wagon, Gerald Harms on tractor, seeding Pheasants Forever plot with the wagon and end gate seeder that Gerald's dad Sylvester Harms used to seed oats back in the 1950s. It worked great with no hickups. The farm is located at George, Iowa."
