Join Tom Nickel for an ongoing discussion on McGilchrist’s book, "The Matter With Things," an insightful look at our divided brain and how to find wholeness in the virtual and real.

The book draws upon many aspects of neurophysiology, psychiatry, art, and spirituality, all topics worth exploring as we explore the virtual and the real world around us. Discussions will focus on education and implications for existing systems, helping us better understand how to push the boundaries of both education and our brains.

Ian McGilchrist’s book discusses how our modern world reflects the fragmented perspective of the brain’s left hemisphere, valuing abstraction over holistic experience. McGilchrist argues we must reintegrate our divided brains to rediscover wisdom, empathy and interconnectedness.

Tom Nickel, Ph.D. is a teacher and digital media explorer. A pioneer in online teaching and learning with a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences, he has lead educational and personal growth events in VR since 2018 through Educators in VR, Tripp meditation app, and on his own with his successful weekly sessions in the metaverse on death and loss. He is a Founding Board ember of the Africa VR Campus & Center and Advisory Board Member for the Khmer Magic Music Bus in Cambodia.
