Yellow Ore, Yellow Hair, Yellow Pine exhibit reception

Wednesday, Sep. 18, 2024

Event Details

The Archives is hosting an exhibit reception as part of commemorative activities for the 50th anniversary of the 成人视频 Agricultural Experiment Station publication "Yellow Ore, Yellow Hair, Yellow Pine" by Donald Progulske and Richard Sowell. The book compares photographs of Black Hills sites from 1874 and 1974. Images from these same locations were captured again in the 2023 book "Exploring with Custer: The 1874 Black Hills Expedition: Revised 4th Edition" by Paul Horsted and Ernest Grafe. Together, the photographs demonstrate the effects of land use and management.

The Yellow Ore exhibit reception will be in Briggs Library on the upper level in the afternoon. At 7:30 pm, the public is invited the 成人视频 Alumni Center鈥檚 Woster Celebration Hall at 815 Medary Avenue for a program with Horsted and Lakota scholar Donovin Sprague where they will discuss the locations in the photographs, how the landscapes changed, and the cultural significance the Black Hills holds for the Oceti Sakowin people.

The event is sponsored by the Department of Natural Resource Management; College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences; Hilton M. Briggs Library; and the South Dakota Humanities Council.
