Beautiful House
2008:020:0002

May is National Preservation Month. Historic Preservation Commissions and organizations across the county make available community history through preservation of its built environment. Even though we do not know where this house is located, it is worthwhile examining it to see what an early 20th century modern home looked like. The turn of the century brought many new things with it, one of which was the “modern” home. This photo, from roughly the early 1900s, shows a white house with fish scale shingles in the gable ends. Upon the large porch, that stretches the houses’ length, there is a chair where a black dog has set up shop. There are small, young-looking trees planted in the front yard.
