Fertilizer Distribution Machinery Project

5/26

In the early 1950s, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Fertilizer Distribution Machinery Project in Beltsville, Maryland and Utah State Agricultural College conducted experiments with fertilizer delivery systems. The museum has a small collection of photographs and correspondence between South Dakota State University Agricultural Experiment Station scientist Lawrence O. Fine and James Hardman of Utah State Agricultural College concerning the fertilizer hoppers. These photos are interesting because the museum collection contains 2 Allis-Chalmers 鈥淕鈥 tractors that were used by 成人视频 Agricultural Experiment station in the early 1950s. Neither tractor has fertilizer hoppers attached. This Allis-Chalmers 鈥淕鈥 tractor has leucite fertilizer hoppers attached to it. They are mounted on the body of the tractor and sit slightly in front of the driver. The hoppers employed a belt type dispensing mechanism that swept the fertilizer into the delivery tubes, which are not visible in this photograph. Extra hardware had to be ordered from Allis-Chalmers to mount the hoppers on the tractor.
