Online Program

The M.Ed. degree in educational administration (EDAD) is designed to meet the needs of individuals who work (or plan to work) in an administrative capacity as building-level education leaders, which may include principals, assistant principals, curriculum directors and supervisors. The program is designed to meet the requirements for endorsement as a principal in South Dakota and is aligned to the  as required by law. The EDAD M.Ed. is a 100% online, 30-credit hour program.

The program requires students to complete 30 credit hours in order to graduate. All of our graduate courses are online offerings, with a majority of our graduate courses lasting 8 weeks. Semesters are divided into a first half and second half which allow for a student to take two accelerated courses each semester. This means courses individually will be more quickly paced and offer more flexibility for students.

The EDAD M.Ed. program includes three semesters of internship in a school-based setting. This ensures that students meet internship requirements for principal certification, including internship experience at both the elementary and secondary levels. See below for the required coursework and recommended course sequence.

Note: South Dakota principal certification requires students to complete an approved South Dakota Indian studies course as part of an educational administration program. Students who did not complete an approved South Dakota Indian studies course during their undergraduate studies will also need to complete AIS 211 (three credits) in addition to the required EDAD M.Ed. program coursework.
