Our Services
Daily:
- Trash bins and recycling bins are emptied.
- Large debris is removed before the floor is dust mopped or vacuumed.
- Floor is mopped or spot cleaned as needed.
- Clean major spills from walls.
- Chairs are placed back in position and counted.
- Markers or chalk & erasers are replaced as needed.
- Chalkboards and whiteboards are washed thoroughly.
- Report damaged classroom seating.
- We also maintain the clocks along with the batteries in them.
Weekly:
- Door handles & light switches are cleaned.
- Cleared tabletops or chair tablets are wiped down and debris is removed from chairs.
- The instructor鈥檚 table and lectern are cleaned (not electronics or equipment).
- Light tubes are changed as needed.
Monthly:
- HVAC vents dusted.
- Any cleared empty horizontal surfaces such as windowsills, baseboards & fixtures are dusted.
Annually:
- Scrub and refinish floors as needed.
- Clean light fixtures as needed.
- Clean walls as needed.
- Inspect all classroom seating in preparation for school start.
What to expect:
- Tile and carpet are clean but may be worn in high traffic areas. Tile and carpet stains will remain if we are not able to remove them with spot cleaning techniques.
- Near the end of a semester, floor finish may be dull or scratched, depending on weather and use.
- During the winter, foot traffic will bring moisture and dirt into the classrooms during the day.
- Between weekly and/or monthly surface cleanings, dust build-up and fingerprints will be noticeable.
- Clocks will be provided in university classroom.
- Classrooms will be at highest cleanliness level at 6:30 a.m., with possible deteriorating conditions during the day. Many classrooms are used all day with few breaks in the schedule.
If planning an event in a university classroom in the evening, please contact Customer Service Center 688-4136 for spot cleaning prior to your event.
If possible, daytime custodial support staff will take advantage of any schedule breaks to spot clean as needed.

- Between weekly and/or monthly surface cleanings, dust build-up and fingerprints will be noticeable.

What to expect:
- Floors are dusted, but stains that cannot be spot-cleaned will remain.
- Dirt build-up may be present around the floorboards and room corners.
- Occupants are responsible for cleaning their own desks and other surfaces.
- Service to labs with restricted access can be prearranged.
- Departments are responsible for collection and disposal of all lab related waste such as biohazard containers and glass/sharps containers.
- We do not clean any horizontal surfaces, sinks, equipment in labs.

- Hard surface floors are cleaned.
- Entrance mats are vacuumed.
- Main lobby entry door windows are cleaned (weather permitting).
- Drinking fountains are cleaned with disinfectant.
- Will assist with furniture being placed into department specified positions.
Monthly:
- HVAC vents or units are dusted.
- Any empty horizontal surfaces such as windowsills, baseboards, railings and ledges.
- Door handles & light switches are cleaned.
Annually:
- Floors are scrubbed and refinished.
- Light fixtures are cleaned as needed.
- High surfaces dusted once a year.
- Entrance mats are deep cleaned.
What to expect:
- Tile is clean but may be worn in high traffic areas. Tile and carpet stains will remain if we are not able to remove them with spot cleaning techniques.
- Near the end of a semester, floor finish may be dull or scratched, depending on weather and use.
- During the winter, foot traffic will bring moisture and dirt in during the day, however, quality walk off entrance matting will be present at the main entrance of each building.
- Between weekly and/or monthly surface cleanings, dust build-up and fingerprints will be noticeable.
- Hallways and lobbies will be at highest cleanliness level at 6:30 a.m., with possible deteriorating conditions during the day. Daytime custodial support staff will perform daily rounds and spot cleaning, focusing on common areas such as hallways and lobbies.

- Clean carpet if necessary and if carpet condition can withstand cleaning.
- Scrub and refinish hard surface floor as necessary.
- Clean light fixtures as needed.
- Clean walls as needed.
- Annual cleaning is accomplished through cooperation with occupants.
What to expect:
- Carpet and tile are clean, although they may be worn in high traffic areas. Certain carpet and/or tile stains will remain if we are not able to remove them with spot cleaning techniques.
- Between weekly and/or monthly surface cleanings, dust build-up and fingerprints will be noticeable.
- Offices receive less attention because they typically receive the least traffic. Occupants are responsible for cleaning their own desks and other surfaces.
- Floors are dusted, but stains that cannot be spot cleaned will remain.
- Dirt build-up may be present around the floorboards and room corners.
- Facilities and Services respectfully will decline to provide service to office areas that are not accessible or if our service may damage or interfere with room contents.

- Dispenser products and batteries are checked and maintained as needed.
- Dispensers are wiped down.
- Large debris is removed from the floor; tile is dust-mopped, then mopped with disinfectant thoroughly.
- All fixture surfaces are cleaned with disinfectant.
- Walls and partitions are cleaned.
- Door handles cleaned with disinfectant.
- Mirrors are cleaned.
Monthly:
- Areas of the room are dusted: HVAC vents, cleared windowsills, baseboards.
Semi-Annually/Quarterly:
- Restroom grout deep cleaned.
Annually:
- Scrub and refinish floor.
- Tile grout is inspected and deep cleaned.
- Clean light fixtures as needed.
What to expect:
- All lights work.
- Soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, faucets, door and stall handles and other bathroom fixtures are clean.
- All supplies are stocked.
- Toilets, sinks, and floors are all clean and disinfected.
- Some restroom fixtures are old and difficult to clean to a shiny and bright condition. Every effort is made to ensure high level of cleanliness regardless of the age or condition of the fixture.
- Daytime custodial support staff will perform afternoon spot cleaning and restocking of restrooms as needed.
The cleanliness level is based on the APPA Staffing Guidelines - Level 2.
Daily:
- The main lobby stairs as well as other stair wells are swept or vacuumed; minor stains are spot-cleaned.
Weekly:
- All rails and other level surfaces at eye level are dusted.
- All handrails will be disinfected.
Monthly:
- Areas of the stairwell are dusted including HVAC vents, high level surfaces, cleared windowsills, baseboards and fixtures.
- All handrails will be detail cleaned.
Annually:
- Scrub and refinish floors. Clean light fixtures as needed.
What to expect:
- Tile is clean but may be worn in high traffic areas. Certain tile stains will remain if we are not able to remove them with spot cleaning techniques.
- Between weekly and/or monthly surface cleanings, dust build-up and fingerprints will be noticeable.
- The stairwells may not appear to be as clean as the hallways, due to the lower finish levels present there.
The cleanliness level is based on the APPA Staffing Guidelines - Level 3.
Daily:
- Buildings locking and unlocked at published times Sunday through Friday morning.
- UPD maintains building security on weekends.
- As necessary, snow removal and ice treatment around buildings and on sidewalks.
Weekly:
- Verify and report exterior lighting situations.
Monthly:
- Fire extinguisher monthly checks in public or academic spaces the first week of each month.
- Smoker outposts checked and maintained.
Semi-Annually/Quarterly:
- Floor maintenance to buff all hard floor surface hallways and deep clean restroom grout.
Summer-end of October-Christmas break-Spring break:
- Mechanical space will be checked and spot cleaned. Cleaning under all mats.
Annually:
- All entrance floor matting is cleaned.
Notes
- Facilities and Services Custodial Services strives to provide a green cleaning service. Therefore, if conditions do not warrant cleaning, labor, natural resources, chemicals will not be invested into cleaning. All frequencies and cleaning levels will be reduced when staff is diverted to handle weather event conditions.
- Facilities and Services Custodial Services will not provide reconditioning of any wood floors which includes sanding or waxing of the wood areas. We will clean and help to maintain wood floors throughout the year.
Events
- If a special event is being held, please notify custodial staff for additional service as needed. At an hourly rate, custodial services can be provided for event support, in specific event locations, such as Intramural Building, Animal Science Arena, or Lincoln Music Hall Peterson Recital Hall.
