New faces, new roles in College of Nursing

The College of Nursing at South Dakota State University has added some new faces to its ranks since July. These dedicated new faculty and staff span ³ÉÈËÊÓƵ’s main campus, as well as the Sioux Falls and Rapid City sites.  

Amy Newstrom

Amy Newstrom 

Position: Clinical assistant professor 

Location: Rapid City 

Focus of position: Instructing courses for graduate nursing students focusing on mental health.  

Favorite part of the position: Being a part of a person's educational journey is a privilege.  

 

 

  Mariah Tetzlaff

Mariah Tetzlaff 

Position: Undergraduate nursing instructor (12 month) 

Location: I currently live in Sioux Falls and work with both the Brookings and Sioux Falls programs. 

Favorite part of the position: My favorite part of my job is meeting young students who are full of enthusiasm and a genuine desire to learn. Their excitement about entering the nursing field is inspiring, and it’s incredibly rewarding to be part of their journey. I look forward to watching them grow into skilled professionals, seeing how they apply what they’ve learned, and ultimately succeed in whichever path they choose in the healthcare world. 

Jaclyn Rauen 

Jaclyn Rauen  

Position: Instructor  

Location: Brookings 

Focus of position: I teach courses starting in first semester through third semester. Current courses are a mix of both lab, clinical and lecture.   

Favorite part of the position: My favorite part of my role is experiencing those moments of understanding and enthusiasm in the students. Seeing students gain critical thinking skills and grow in their confidence and skill is rewarding as an instructor.  I look forward to mentoring students and helping them navigate their education and personal/professional growth. 

 

Nicole Carlson

Nicole Carlson 

Position: Assistant professor (served as an instructor in the college since 2016) 

Location: Brookings 

Focus of position: Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; Conducting research.  

Favorite part of the position: The variety! Depending on the day, I may be teaching, grading, meeting with students, writing, collaborating in a team or conducting research.

Position: Instructor 

Location: Brookings/Sioux Falls 

Focus of position: Nursing 

Favorite part of the position: I am excited to get to know the students and build relationships with other faculty members. 

 

 

 

 

Linda Dewald

Linda Dewald 

Position: Program assistant I 

Location: Rapid City 

Focus of position: The focus of my position is to assist the Nursing Student Services and advisors at the Rapid City site. This includes helping plan all nursing student ceremonies each semester as well as other support. 

Favorite part of the position: The favorite part of my job is helping plan nursing student ceremonies and to witness the students achieving their goals. I look forward to meeting the rest of my team in person who are at the other locations.

Location: Rapid City  

Focus of position: Undergraduate nursing  

Favorite part of the position: I love partnering with students in their academic journey; creating a welcoming yet stimulating learning environment is a key passion of mine. 

 

Rachel Aamold

Position: Instructor 

Location: Sioux Falls 

Favorite part of the position: I love watching students grow in their clinical judgment and passion for caring for others. I am also looking forward to mentoring future nurse leaders and fostering a love for lifelong learning. 

 

Brittani Web

Position: Simulation and learning lab technician 

Location: Rapid City 

Focus of position: I support the simulation skills lab and operations of high-fidelity simulation and innovations at the Rapid City site. 

Favorite part of the position: I am looking forward to assisting in the education of future nurses. 

 

Emily Antonsen              

Position: Simulation operations specialist 

Location: Brookings  

Focus of position: I will be responsible for preparing each scenario for simulation and working closely with the instructors to help to run the technology associated with each scenario. I will also be assisting with the SP program.  

Favorite part of the position: I’m excited to be back in the ³ÉÈËÊÓƵ College of Nursing as an alumnus and to use my nursing background in a new way. I’m looking forward to getting to know coworkers, working with students during simulation and watching them learn and grow as future nurses. 

 

Jeannie Rossow

Jeannie Rossow              

Position: Instructor 

Location: Brookings 

Focus of position:  I am a new instructor in the College of Nursing. My primary focus area in my position is on med-surg, population health and care of the older adult. I will also be teaching in the R.N. to B.S.N. program, focusing on population health and leadership. 

Favorite part of the position: My favorite part of being an instructor is having the opportunity to see students learning and growing toward becoming great nurses. When students are able to start putting things together and show good clinical judgement and strong confidence, it makes me very excited as an educator. I really enjoy knowing I play a small part in their learning journey.
