A new study from South Dakota State University's College of Nursing investigates the perceived barriers to cancer care in rural South Dakota.

A group of 37 South Dakota State University nursing students promoted healthy summer habits by holding a health fair at the Great Plains Zoo on June 16. The event, which offered the zoo’s youngest visitors lessons in water safety, sun protection and physical activity, served as pediatric clinical experience for the ������Ƶ students.

The Community Practice Innovation Center (CPIC) is a resource and collaboration center that has seen remarkable growth over the last five years. The center, which is housed in the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions at South Dakota State University, brings together faculty, staff, students, researchers, practitioners and collaborators from across the state to “lead change within community practice.”

Deirdre Cross is a Human Biology major at South Dakota State University, also pursuing minors in Chemistry and Health Education. She is on a Pre-Physician’s Assistant track, with plans to become a PA after graduation. In addition to pursuing her major, two minors, and being an Honors student, Cross has also earned a Phlebotomy Certificate.

Brandon Varilek, assistant professor in South Dakota State University’s College of Nursing, has received a grant to study palliative care use, kidney transplant rates, and explore survival statistics among American Indians with end-stage renal disease caused by diabetes.

A team from the Community Practice Innovation Center at South Dakota State University has recently published a manuscript detailing the results of a campaign to raise awareness of pharmacist and pharmacy-related services for patients with diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Soon after being published, the manuscript was featured in a story in the online publication, Pharmacy Times.
