A team from the Community Practice Innovation Center at South Dakota State University has recently published a manuscript detailing the results of a campaign to raise awareness of pharmacist and pharmacy-related services for patients with diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Soon after being published, the manuscript was featured in a story in the online publication, Pharmacy Times.

The BREATHE-SD project was recently featured on a segment of The Prairie Doc, which airs on SDPB. BREATHE-SD is a new grant-funded project to increase the respiratory therapy and public health workforce in South Dakota.

Investigators from the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions at South Dakota State University are engaged in a five-year project, prompted by a call-to-action from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to develop solutions to improve the care of South Dakotans with diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

Researchers on South Dakota State University’s campus will now have a framework to help them turn their innovative discoveries into viable commercial products, thanks to the announcement of the National Science Foundation’s Great Plains Innovation Corps (I-Corps) Hub. 

South Dakota State University’s College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions’ 3D Center now has a new namesake—the Haarberg Center for Drug, Disease and Delivery Research, thanks to a transformational $1.1 million gift from Kevin and Lorie Haarberg.

Blair Metzger, president of DGR Engineering of Rock Rapids, Iowa, received the Wayne E. Knabach Excellence in Power Award at the Center for Power Systems Studies banquet Oct. 3 at McCrory Gardens Education and Visitor Center.

Each fall—prior to the start of preseason training camp—members of the South Dakota State University football team make the trek to Wagner Hall to gather key information about the current makeup of their bodies. Led by Seth Daughters, an instructor in the exercise science program, student-athletes will get parameters on their body fat percentage, lean muscle and fat free mass. This information will help guide the student-athletes in their individualized strength and conditioning plans throughout the season. 

South Dakota State University is partnering with hospitals in Brookings, Huron and Madison to expand the public health and respiratory therapy workforce. The Community Practice Innovation Center within the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions at ³ÉÈËÊÓƵ has received a three-year, $1.545 million federal grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration.

Beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year, Sanford will commit to sponsorships for up to 24 students in the Respiratory Care program at South Dakota State University. This is the next step in a pilot program that began in 2020 but has previously only been open to students based in Sioux Falls. Now all ³ÉÈËÊÓƵ Respiratory Care students are eligible to receive the Sanford sponsorships.

Monument Health’s Respiratory Care program is offering scholarships and sign-on bonuses, which are available to students in the South Dakota State University Respiratory Care program.
