WWII had an effect on the entire country from the troops that left to go overseas to the way food was produced. The SD State Fair was no exception. The 1944 South Dakota State Victory Fair reminded people to do their part for Victory.

The Avery Company had a long history in producing farm implement. Its history of the company dates back from Civil War to WWII. It had many unique designs and styles of engines. The Avery Company propelled farm implement along.

This week's What’s New Wednesday celebrates the pressure cookers of the 1940’s. Rationed during WWII, pressure cookers allowed for safe food preservation, and belonged to the community.

Corn husking and shucking takes a great deal of work and talent. Competitions occurred to prove who the fastest and most efficient cornhusker husker was. This week's What's New Wednesday celebrates the 1938 National Cornhusking Contest in Dell Rapids, South Dakota.

Using Resources

Nearly 200 years of Business

The John Morrell & Co brand goes hand in hand with meat production in South Dakota, as they established a packing plant in Sioux Falls over 100 years ago. However, the history of the Morrell name dates back to nearly 200 years ago.
