Biography
Dr. Messerli鈥檚 lab focuses on understanding relationships between vertebrate cellular structure and function. Special emphasis is directed toward understanding physiological processes involved with controlling tissue development and repair.
We are studying the roles of mechanotransduction and second messenger signaling during development and repair. We are also exploring the mechanisms by which clinical treatments promote wound repair. Understanding natural engineering schemes helps us to understand formation of cellular and tissue pattern and polarity and empowers us to repair damaged tissues and organs when endogenous repair mechanisms do not work. We use an interdisciplinary approach combining modern molecular methods with classic and state of the art physiological tools. We continue to advance electrical, electrochemical and imaging methods to help us with our studies.
