Richard B. Hayter earned both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering from Kansas State University, following his graduation from South Dakota State University. He was involved in education through his work at Kansas State University and served as associate dean of Engineering Extension Programs at KSU. Hayter received national attention in the area of air conditioning and refrigeration. He received many honors and awards, including being listed in "Who鈥檚 Who in Engineering," "Outstanding Young Men of America," "Who鈥檚 Who in the Midwest," "International Who鈥檚 Who in Engineering" and "Who鈥檚 Who in Technology Today." He was also selected as one of 35 Kansans to participate in an extensive leadership institute, titled Leadership Today, conducted by the Kansas by the Kansas Association of Commerce and Industry.
