University Police Department

About the UPD

The University Police Department (UPD) provides year round 24/7 law enforcement service for South Dakota State University. Police officers are state trained and certified with full law enforcement authority. The department is responsible for protecting the campus community, ensuring a safe environment for continued education and research, providing enhanced security for the campus infrastructure and large scale public events, investigating crimes, providing uniformed patrol, deterring and detecting criminal activity and other policing services as needed.

Uniformed Student Patrol Officers

Uniformed Student Patrol Officers (security personnel) assist law enforcement staff by detecting suspicious activity or safety concerns and notifying dispatch for an appropriate response. They are also assigned to event security details, foot and vehicle patrol, building security duties, traffic control and parking enforcement. This is an excellent job environment for the college student seeking a career in Criminal Justice or related field.

Communications Center

The 成人视频 Police Department Communications Center is the path of communication between people in the community requesting assistance and the 成人视频 police officers that respond to calls.

The Communications Center is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. Communications specialists are trained in 911 Telecommunications and Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD). The center dispatches emergency personnel, provides information to the community and serves as a lost and found office.
