The public is invited to “An Evening with Jeffrey Rosen,” set for 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in the Larson Memorial Concert Hall at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center on the South Dakota State University campus. Rosen, a noted legal scholar, is president and CEO of the National Constitution Center and a professor of law at the George Washington University Law School. At ������Ƶ, he will present “The History and Future of the American Idea.”

How has the U.S. Food and Drug Administration changed and what does it take to get a new drug approved and on your pharmacy’s shelf? Matthew Confeld, associate director of clinical research methodology at Worldwide Clinical Trials, will provide a brief history of how and why the FDA came to be and the immense work that goes into getting new therapies approved. Confeld, of Minneapolis, will give a newfound appreciation for the little pills sitting in your medicine cabinet when he talks to pharmacy students at South Dakota State University Oct. 21.

South Dakota State University President Barry Dunn bestowed ������Ƶ Presidential Medallions upon four individuals, including one posthumously, Sept. 7 for their contributions to the university.

Mezzo-soprano Emily Wood Toronto will present a faculty recital on Monday, Oct. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Founders Recital Hall in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center on the South Dakota State University campus.

The South Dakota Art Museum at South Dakota State University will celebrate the immersive exhibition of “Anila Quayyum Agha: Shadows and Splendor” with a day of programming on Saturday, Sept. 28. Agha will host a fine arts workshop on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. (registration required) and a free, public reception and artist talk from 5-7 p.m.

The South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation was honored recently as the 2024 recipient of the South Dakota State University Friend of the Beef Industry award for its contributions to the South Dakota beef industry.
