Learn about the benefits of working in health care

Through the College of Nursing’s outreach programs, young students across South Dakota can explore and learn about the benefits of a career in nursing.

We recognize that there is a shortage of nurses in South Dakota—and across the country—and we developed these programs to inform students about careers in nursing and other health-related fields. If you’re wondering what it would be like to work as a nurse, pharmacist or other health care professional, you can attend Health Professions Career Camp on the Brookings main campus. We also offer Nursing Career Exploration Camp in Rapid City and Spearfish.

Our Why I want to be a Nurse essay contest is a fun opportunity for fifth grade students aspiring to be nurses. Through the contest and camps, we engage students of different ages, grades and locations and make them aware of the advantages of a career in health care.
