Developing future health and business professionals and community leaders

With nationally recognized faculty as experts in their field, our team is dedicated to student success by providing a strong foundation of knowledge, skills and abilities for employment in the health care field, industry and education graduate; as well as, entrance into graduate and professional schools. Our practice of integrating academic programs, which focus on nutrition, health, leadership, financial planning, consumer affairs, recreation, management, merchandising, exercise and human performance and aviation provides students and faculty with unique opportunities to collaborate and to promote interaction among students in different majors with a common focus on promoting excellence in their respective major.

The School of Health and Consumer Sciences is dedicated to improving the quality of life regionally, nationally and globally by fostering lifelong learners, conducting innovative research and teaching and delivering effective education and outreach.

Firefighters

Wellness for firefighters

³ÉÈËÊÓƵ researcher Allison Barry has received a grant from FEMA — the first ever for ³ÉÈËÊÓƵ — to develop strategic plans to improve health and well-being outcomes for rural volunteer firefighters.

Students tee up for on-the-course learning 

Preparing for the golf event of the year in Sioux Falls takes some work. It’s the behind-the-scenes preparation that many don’t think about or notice but takes considerable time and effort. Roughly 50 South Dakota State University students spent time on Sept. 3 and 5 helping the Minnehaha Country Club and Pro Links Sports prepare for the PGA Tour Champions event.

New partnership with St. Jude providing unique, elite opportunities for students

Students enrolled in the exercise science program in the School of Health and Human Sciences at South Dakota State University now have the opportunity to apply for an exclusive ³ÉÈËÊÓƵ internship spot in the Human Performance Lab at a top-rated pediatric oncology hospital — St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
