South Dakota State University Horse Sale
In August 2024 the Equine Teaching Facility and Animal Science Department at South Dakota State University will offer for sale four yearling colts raised at the facility. All colts have been part of the teaching program and had a significant amount of handling relative to their age. All colts are registered with the American Quarter Horse Association and are up to date on recommended vaccinations and foot/hoof care. Photos and pedigree information on each of the colts for sale will be made available at ³ÉÈËÊÓƵ Animal Science Department.
A sealed bid process will be used for the sale of colts. The Equine Teaching Facility will be open for prospective buyers to view the colts August 3-11. The Facility will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and by appointment on Saturdays and Sundays. Prior communication and setting an appointment time is strongly encouraged for weekday visits. Contact Jen Eide, Equine Teaching Facility Manager, by text or call at 605-695-0766 to set an appointment. Sealed bids are due by 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 13. Bids must be submitted using the ³ÉÈËÊÓƵ Horse Sale form. A separate form must be used for each bid submitted. Forms must be delivered by certified mail or personally delivered to:

Winning bid submitters will be notified no later than August 15. Payment must be made by check (no cash, no cards) and checks must have cleared before pick-up of horse(s). Checks must be mailed by certified mail or personally delivered to the address above. Allow 5 days for checks to clear. A reserve minimum bid will be set for each horse. Final purchase information will be available by request. Appointments must be made with Jen Eide for pickup of horses. Horses must be picked up by August 30 to avoid a carrying fee of $25 per day. The Equine Teaching Facility does not offer delivery.
Bay Gelding
Bennett should mature to 15.2 hands tall. He has a nice thick frame and muscling to cover it. Bennett has a good mind and is a quick learner who wants to please. He has a low headed easy ground covering stride. Bennett was born and raised at the University and has been handled by students in classes. He stands tied, leads, loads and stands for farrier without issue. While in the Yearling Halter class he introduced to round penning, exposed to many kinds of ground obstacles in hand. Gray Gelding
Bolt should mature to about 16 hands, lots of bone and solid feet. He is a friendly laid-back character with a big motor. Bolt has a steady mind and a natural willingness to meet challenges head on. If you are looking for a nice strong working horse this horse is for you. Bolt has a small scar on the hind left fetlock from a cut that has healed. He is sound of limb. Bolt was born and raised at the University and has been handled by students in classes. He stands tied, leads, loads and stands for farrier without issue. While in the Yearling Halter class he introduced to round penning, exposed to many kinds of ground obstacles in hand. Gray Gelding
Cash should mature around 15.1 hands lots of bone and good feet. Cash is a quick footed colt with a desire to please. He has a nice calm nature but wants a job to keep him busy. When he matures, he will have thick body style ready to work some cows. Cash was born and raised at the University and has been handled by students in classes. Palomino gelding
Henry should mature to about 15 hands tall. This colt has a sweet as pie disposition, like his other siblings from this pedigree line he will be an easy-going colt with a solid disposition and will be easy to start to ride. He would make a nice 4-H type of horse. Henry was born and raised at the University and has been handled by students in classes. He stands tied, leads, loads and stands for farrier without issue.
