Daktronics Engineering Hall

Daktronics Engineering Hall

Daktronics Engineering Hall houses two departments, electrical engineering and computer science and physics. The facility boasts four floors and 29,000 square feet of space.

Building Description

The lower floor is dedicated to electrical engineering researchers, whose laboratories range from energy storage to optics. The first floor has three dedicated student areas for study, laboratories and classrooms.

The second floor of Daktronics Engineering Hall is home to the Chuck and Judy Waggoner Department Suite for the McComish Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The physics main office is on this floor in addition to faculty offices, classrooms and undergraduate labs for both departments.

Third floor has the Richard and Karen McComish Power and Energy Systems Laboratory, where visitors can get a firsthand look at student projects. Solar panels on the roof supply energy to the microgrid research lab. The engineering research office and image processing laboratory are on this floor as well.

Phase I, a $8.375-million project, was dedicated May 1, 2009. The final part of Phase I was cleanroom research facilities in the lower level, which was finalized in March 2011. The 43,000-square-foot wing was built entirely with private funding. Phase II, a $4-million project, houses physics on the middle two floors with the electrical engineering and computer science department using the remainder of the space.
