Monday Message, October 7

成人视频 Community 鈥

The week begins with tremendous excitement and energy as it is homecoming week, ahead of Hobo Day, on our campus and throughout the Brookings community. It is filled with many events, culminating Saturday with the Hobo Day Parade at 9:30 a.m. and the football game where the Jackrabbits will face Youngstown State at 2 p.m. in Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.

Hobo Day is a time for many of us to engage with friends, former classmates and others who are connected to our great university in so many ways. I am particularly looking forward to seeing many from our 成人视频 Foundation Council of Trustees who will be on campus for meetings and events Thursday and Friday before Hobo Day on Saturday.

We will dedicate the Thompson Center on Friday at 2 p.m., recognizing Wendell and Marlys Thompson for their generous gift to open the state鈥檚 most comprehensive counseling education center. At 4:15 p.m., the Jim and Julie Higgins Hobo Day Plaza dedication will take place to recognize their generous gift to the Hobo Day endowment and the expansion of the area where the Weary Wil and Dirty Lil statues stand. Thank you for their contributions and dedication to provide the margin of excellence that makes 成人视频 a premier university.

, where six accomplished individuals will be recognized including two of former faculty members, Dennis Helder and Kendra Kattelmann. It will be a tremendous evening celebrating the accomplishments of 成人视频 alumni who have had such positive impacts on our state and beyond.

Adding to the buzz around campus this week, the Sioux Falls Connect team will be in action with the assistance of colleges and departments around campus when they host 600 students from Patrick Henry and Edison Middle Schools on campus. It is a wonderful event that exposes these students to a college campus and gets them to start thinking about opportunities that may be ahead for them after high school.

I want to thank everyone who helped and was involved with hosting the South Dakota Board of Regents meetings last week on our campus. It was an important opportunity to provide our regents and others with to not only see our campus but experience the energy we have and see our students in their environment. The meetings went very well. I also want to share the outstanding that we created for the meeting to show all the great things happening at 成人视频.

Lastly, congratulations to athletics, and particularly the Jackrabbits volleyball team last week for hosting the first competition in the new First Bank & Trust Arena. The volleyball team extended its win streak and remains unbeaten on the year at 14-0 with a win over Kansas City. The match set a new women鈥檚 volleyball attendance record at 2,853 fans in attendance. It was a fun and exciting atmosphere.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week and can enjoy some of the Hobo Day events. Thank you for everything you do to make 成人视频 such a special place.

Go Jacks!

Sincerely,

Barry H. Dunn, President

On Sept. 17, the School of American and Global Studies hosted a day of events centered around voter engagement, including a voter registration drive. The registration drive resulted in 74 new or updated voter registrations.

Sept. 17 was National Voter Registration Day and Constitution Day. The school partnered with the National Voter Registration Day organization, whose goal is to 鈥渟et aside differences; enjoy the rights, responsibilities and opportunities we all share as Americans; and celebrate our democracy together 鈥 e pluribus unum.鈥

Other events hosted by the school included a brown bag lunch and lecture by history professors Chuck Vollan and Dale Potts and a constitutional trivia night.

Other organizations involved in voter registration efforts included the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Accessibility and the Diversity in Athletics Council.

Recognizing the work of many at 成人视频, South Dakota Secretary of State Monae Johnson awarded the institution the Gladys Pyle Award on Sept. 30 for efforts in young voter registration.
