Chronicling America is a partnership of National Digital Newspaper Program, The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Library of Congress (LC) that provides access to information about historic newspapers and select digitized newspaper pages through a searchable database of U.S. newspapers.

This website is a great resource for students researching topics related to African American History. UMBRA Search African American History brings together digitized materials from archives across the country focusing on African American History. The website has a step-by-step training function that teaches users how to utilize/work the website. Each search brings up related imagery and keywords that can help to expand research.

This resource contains topically-focused digital collections of historical documents. Collections cover a broad range of topics and are chosen based on requests from scholars, archivists and students.

Created by Yale Law School’s Lillian Goldman Library, the Avalon Project is a website that contains various digital documents relevant to the fields of Law, History, Economics, Politics, Diplomacy and Government.

The Digital Public Library of America is an extensive online database filled with primary and secondary sources from a wide variety of educational fields.

HathiTrust is a partnership of academic and research institutions, offering a collection of millions of titles digitized from libraries around the world.

Marist College’s James A. Cannavino Library provides an online archive of digitized nineteenth century periodicals from various institutions across the country. These digitized periodicals are made available to the general public by these institutions. Periodicals are categorized by date, place of publication and subject.

Archive Grid is an interactive map of archives from across the world. The site contains millions of records pertaining to collections. Archive Grid links collections to their respected institution’s websites and online archives, allowing users to find resources from institutions across the globe.

JSTOR is an online digital archive that contains over 10 Million academic journal articles, books and primary sources in 75 different disciplines. JSTOR connects libraries across the academic world, providing independent researchers with a vast variety of sources to aid in their research endeavors. JSTOR subscriptions are purchased by a majority of South Dakota Universities, giving access to University guests, students and faculty.

ARSTOR Digital Library offers numerous high quality images from museums, photo archives, scholars, artists around the world to aid in education and research. The site contains over 2 million images from multiple disciplines. ARTSTOR also contains a section devoted solely to teacher resources which includes everything from case studies, curriculum guides, illustrated essays, guest lectures and more.

The Internet Archive and Open Library offers over 11,000,000 fully accessible books and texts, as well as a collection of  550,000 modern eBooks that can be borrowed or downloaded at .

Early US History 19th Century Newspapers Free and Available Online is a site that contains links to online archives and resources that pertain to early US History. Users can access online resources from across the country to aid in their research pursuits.

The Digital Library of Georgia contains over a million digital objects in more than 200 collections from 60 institutions and 100 government agencies. This resource while based out of Georgia provides access to digital objects and collections that  can aid in research pursuits from users across the globe.  The Digital Library of Georgia is based out of the University of Georgia Libraries and is an initiative of Georgia’s, GALILEO, an acronym of the Georgia Library Learning Online, an initiative of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.

The Freedmen’s Bureau Online is a collection of online records pertaining to the Freedmen’s Bureau. The site is broken down into key categories, as well as records by state. there is also a search function for more advanced researching.

The Civil Rights Digital Library provides users with access to primary sources and other educational materials from libraries, archives, museums, public broadcasters and other resources from across the nation. The site features a collection of unedited news film from the (Atlanta) and (Albany, Ga.) television archives held by the at the . The site also provides numerous  and contextual materials. The Civil Rights Digital Library is a partnership among librarians, technologists, archivists, educators, scholars, academic publishers and public broadcasters. The initiative receives support through a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Photogrammar is an online digital collection of 17,000 Depression Era photographs taken by the United States Farm Security Administration and Office of War Information (FSA-OWI) from 1935-1945. The site uses interactive maps that allow users to search by location and photographer. This online digital archive is a collaborative project of Yale University and The National Endowment of the Humanities.

Europeana Collection is an online multimedia library, museum and archive, that provides access to numerous digitized books, audio and film material, photos, paintings, maps, manuscripts, newspapers and archival documents from across Europe.

American Journeys is a digital library of geographical, cultural and chronological information about the exploration of North America by Europeans and, later, Americans. The website is organized into geographical sections: the Northeast, Southeast, Great Lakes and Mississippi Valley, Great Plains and Rocky Mountains, Southwest and California and Pacific Northwest and Hawaii. Funding for American Journeys was provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, under a 2003 National Leadership Grant. The Wisconsin Historical Society, National History Day and Prof. Scott M. Cutlip of the University of Wisconsin all played a major role in the creation of this resource.
