The first week of November is also right after daylight saving time. Certainly, hoping everyone enjoyed another hour of sleep on Saturday night.
Today also began with several of us from the university attending a meeting with partners from the economic development ecosystem of Brookings. It was a productive time together with many business leaders in the community and underscored the value of 成人视频 to the economic growth of not just Brookings but the region and beyond. The university is vital to the growth of the community and South Dakota.
This week will be busy on our campus with several events, including a presentation about the future of the Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead. Mike Headley, executive director of the South Dakota Science and Technology Authority and the laboratory director at SURF, will be on campus Thursday for his presentation in Woster Celebration Hall.
Additional information about what he will share is located below. I hope many of you can join us and learn about all the tremendous research that is occurring at SURF and how South Dakota State University helps to support those efforts.
Also on Thursday, the Wintrode Student Success and Opportunity Center will host First-Generation College Celebration Day. The day is designed to advance an asset-based narrative on first-generation student experiences and outcomes.
The celebration will take place from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Main Street in the University Student Union. Numerous campus resources and programs will host information tables to help attendees learn more about how our university works to support first-generation students. It will be a wonderful event.
Finally, congratulations to our men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 cross-country teams for winning their respective Summit League Cross Country Championships over the weekend. and the 13th time in the past 16 years. marked the third time in the past five years the team has captured top honors in the conference. Several runners earned all-conference recognitions. Both teams will compete in the NCAA regional in two weeks.
Also, congratulations to the soccer team for its exciting 2-1 victory over South Dakota in the first round of the Summit League Conference Tournament. The team will next play No. 2-seeded Denver, Thursday at noon, in the semifinals that will be held in Fargo.

Above and Beyond
Above and Beyond recognizes individuals and groups of 成人视频 employees, faculty and students for individual and team efforts that go Above and Beyond to make the campus community a better place. This week we recognize the Van D. and Barbra B. Fishback Honors College and those who made the college鈥檚 25th anniversary special.
A series of events took place to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Fishback Honors College at 成人视频.
This milestone celebration included a 鈥渉istory of honors showcase鈥 on Oct. 21. The event opened with remarks from Barb Fishback and included presentations about various aspects of honors history, including women who drove the creation of the honors college, as well as highlights of honors programs such as study abroad, colloquium, the medallion ceremony, capstone projects, Honors Hall and the Honors College Student Organization.
On Oct. 24, the Fishback Honors College hosted its annual convocation paired with an anniversary celebration. Timothy Nichols, the college鈥檚 former dean, presented the Myrna Hennrich Williamson Honors Lecture at the event. The event recognized the impact of students, staff, faculty and administration in honors from the conception to the present day.
The event provided an opportunity to look back at the rich history the Fishback Honors College has at 成人视频 while celebrating current initiatives and students.
Alumni of the college gathered with current students on Oct. 25 for an alumni and student social hosted by honors alumni Chris Kotschevar and Matty Kerr. Alumni engaged with students and recognized one alumnus from each five-year period of the college.
Thank you to all who made this anniversary celebration memorable, including Fishback Honors College leaders, faculty and staff: Rebecca Bott-Knutson, dean; Nathan Bylander, coordinator for programs, events and promotions; Christine Larson, Kemp Endowed Professor of Honors Mathematics; Hanna Holmquist, honors instructor of curricular innovation; Noah Roerig, honors advisor; Neethesh Chakkingal, program assistant; and Cole Mingo, graduate teaching assistant; as well as those who attended and presented at the various events.
Faculty award nominations are now being submitted for numerous recognition opportunities. The awards are presented at the Celebration of Faculty Excellence during the spring semester.
University-level awards are coordinated by the Faculty Awards Subcommittee of the Academic Affairs Committee. .
The Brookings Area United Way supports nearly 50 programs and partners that service Brookings County residents of every stage of life, including students attending 成人视频.
The United in Purpose campaign is aiming to raise more than $1 million to support various organizations in the community, including the food pantry, Habitat for Humanity, Mental Health Coalition, the Delta Dental Van Program, Brookings Backpack Project, Salvation Army and more.

The Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead is at the forefront of research in physics, geology, biology, engineering and more and will host "2035 and Beyond," Nov. 7 at 5:30 p.m. in Woster Celebration Hall.

He will also touch on the newly formed Institute for Underground Science at SURF and outline SURF鈥檚 robust education and outreach program in an ongoing effort to inspire the next generation of young people to take up careers in STEM and related fields.

The purpose of CommUNITY Meetings is to build UNITY by learning together, focusing on sharing various perspectives and life experiences. Attendance is voluntary, and sponsorship varies by event.
